The Kambourines @ Listen, 25/06/08

Last night at Opus's weekly spoken word and live music, Listen , held at the Green Room, a Norwegian-cum-Scouser folk-pop outfit by the name of The Kambourines (pictured above) played a pretty good acoustic set. I checked their MySpace earlier this morning and the songs are damn catchy on recording, too. Well worth a listen. Find them at the web address below: http://www.myspace.com/thekambourines

Alongside Jane Holland's review of Adam Foulds's debut, The Broken Word , my review of Oxford undergrad Paul Abbott's Flood , published by Clutag Press, is now up on the latest edition of Poetry Matters . You can find it here .

Mick Imlah: The Lost Leader

His first collection of poems in twenty years (since the acclaimed Birthmarks in 1988), and Mick Imlah's new Faber volume, The Lost Leader , is sure to be one of the most significant poetry books published this year. In this weekend's Guardian , Peter McDonald reviews it .

The Bends: Radiohead

The title track from Radiohead's second album, and the first that proved them to be a band of serious ambition and original talent. Performed live on Jools Holland's Later ... there's also an excellent performance of 'High and Dry' that YouTube offers up afterwards.

Poetry at The Runaway Girl

This took place last night (should've posted it up yesterday for Sheffield-based readers but never got around to it) and was a fun, entertaining evening. So I may do a write-up / review thingy of it in the near-ish future.
